It was tricky business getting The Muppet crew back together in their 2011 Hollywood comeback, The Muppets, but now it seems impossible to keep Kermit and co. apart. Having successfully reunited to save their old theater from the villainous clutches of Chris Cooper, The Muppets are now taking things abroad in the first teaser for the sequel, Muppets Most Wanted (formerly known as The Muppets…Again!).
This time around, Disney is taking the lovable Muppets globetrotting across Europe. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear and friends are all returning, starring alongside human newcomers Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell. The official synopsis reads:
Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.
James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller will return to write and direct, with Academy Award-winner Bret McKenzie once again in charge of music. The Muppets return March 21, 2014.
