Disney Announces Release Date of Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises
Deadline reports that The Wind Rises, the supposed final feature-length film from renowned Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki, will be released in select theaters on Feb. 21 before expanding into a wider release a week later.
The film, which will be released under Disney’s Touchstone Pictures banner, will apparently also be playing at several locations in Los Angeles and New York City from Nov. 8-14 in order to qualify for Oscar consideration.
A top grosser in Japanese cinemas for the past eight weeks, the film is set to make its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival tonight.
In a change of pace from Miyazaki’s more whimsical, fantasy-heavy fare, The Wind Rises chronicles the real-life stories of famed aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi and poet Tatsuo Hori.
