Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Episode Gets Title, Poster

We now have an official title for the much hyped and tightly guarded project that is the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special. It’s The Day of the Doctor.

BBC America unveiled the title late last night along with a poster that depicts current Doctor Matt Smith standing back-to-back with his previous incarnation (David Tennant) while John Hurt (presumably playing a corrupted iteration of the Doctor character) stands situated between the two. Co-starring Jenna Coleman as current companion Clara Oswald, the special episode will air Nov. 23—the day of the show’s original airing back in 1963—on both BBC and BBC America.

As previously reported, former Who actress Billie Piper will also be returning as Rose Tyler, The Doctor’s beloved, long-serving companion.

Following the anniversary event, Matt Smith is set to leave the show and be replaced by In the Loop star Peter Capaldi during the events of the annual Doctor Who Christmas Special.
