Jeff Daniels delivered his own breaking news last night through Twitter, but not as his Newsroom character Will McAvoy.
HBO has decided to renew the show, which centers on employees at a fictional news network, according to a tweet from Daniels. The show was created by Aaron Sorkin, who is best known for developing White House drama The West Wing.
“It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3,” Daniels Tweeted last night. Daniels was nominated for an Emmy for his role in the show as McAvoy. HBO has not yet released a statement.
In addition, HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo commented in July that the network has been very happy with the show’s performance and was seriously considering renewal, reports Deadline.
“The odds are excellent — we’re enormously happy with the show,” Lombardo said. “If we can figure the scheduling, I will be shocked if you would be not hearing about a renewal soon. The numbers this season are surpassing last season.”
