Julianne Moore Officially Confirmed for Hunger Games: Mockingjay
After initial speculation back in June, Deadline has officially confirmed that Oscar nominee Julianne Moore will be playing a major role in the concluding chapters of the Hunger Games franchise.
The actress, who will appear later this month in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, Don Jon, will portray President Alma Coin in the first and second part of the series’ final installment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. In the books, Coin serves as the leader of the rebellion against the tyrannical Capitol. Ironically, Moore previously starred as another ambitious politician—the one and only Sarah Palin— earlier this year in the much-lauded HBO film Game Change
Moore joins a slew of new cast members that includes Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer, 90210’s Evan Ross and Australian actress Stef Dawson.
Currently, the second installment in the series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is set to open Nov. 22. Mockingjay: Part 1, meanwhile, will open wide on November 21, 2014, with Mockingjay: Part 2 slated for Nov. 20, 2015.
