Lee Daniels' The Butler Creative Team Lands Hip-Hop Drama Pilot at Fox
After a surprise box-office domination this summer, the director/writer team behind Lee Daniels’ The Butler is now looking to carve a niche on network television.
Deadline reports that Butler director Lee Daniels and screenwriter Danny Strong have teamed up with legendary producer Brian Grazer for a drama project that caused a heated bidding war among the networks before being claimed by Fox.
The pilot, which will be written by Strong and directed by Daniels, has been described as a “family drama set in the world of a hip hop empire.”
Incidentally, this would mark Strong’s return to the network where he got his big break by playing the geeky Jonathan Levinson on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.
