Microsoft to Develop Siri-Like Personal Assistant Named After Halo Character
Her name is Cortana. And she’s Microsoft’s answer to Siri.
Named after a character in the popular video game Halo, it seems Cortana, a voice-activated personal assistant, will be released as part of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 update, according to The Verge.
The details on Cortana are sparse but screenshots obtained by The Verge indicate that Cortana will have access to weather, location and calendar data, as well as bluetooth controls and notifications.
These early photos of Windows Phone 8.1 also show the menus within Cortana. Most notable of which is the offering of “Contexts,” which seem to offer options based on the context of your phone’s social interactions. Under “Contexts” there seem to be four sub-catergories: Home, Work, Significant Other and Favorite People. It is unclear how the categories will affect the interface as a whole, but it is interesting that there is a entire section devoted to different social contexts and situations.
Microsoft’s Window Phone 8.1 update is slated to be released in 2014.
