Saturday Night Live Announces Six New Cast Members
After several weeks of massive speculation, Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels and NBC have finally announced the latest batch of Not-Ready-for-Primetime-Players.
Released in a statement earlier this morning by NBC, (via The Hollywood Reporter) the new cast includes Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, John Milhiser, Brooks Wheelan and Noël Wells. Out of this group, Bennett is perhaps the best known, having appeared in several hilarious AT&T spots where he attempts to communicate with a group of young children.
In addition, Mike O’Brien, who has been a member of the show’s writing staff for the past four seasons, is being bumped up to regular cast status.
The wild card of the group, however, is Wheelan, a Los Angeles-based stand-up comedian, who was—according to a New York Times report on Sunday—selected late in the process.
The long-running sketch show will enter its 39th season on Sept. 28, with former cast member Tina Fey as host and Arcade Fire as the musical guest.
