The Wizard of Oz revival continues with the possible development of yet another TV series that focuses on the classic tale of Dorothy and her adventures in Oz, Deadline reports.
The new series, titled Dorothy Must Die, is the fourth TV project based on the classic story that has been sold within the past two months. Deadline reports that the CW is currently in talks to develop the series, which will take place 80 years after the events of the original Wizard of Oz.
Dorothy Must Die is adapted from an upcoming young adult novel of the same name, written by Danielle Page. In the novel, Dorothy decided to stay in Oz rather than return home to Kansas and has become a dictator who has established a reign of terror over the fantasy kingdom.
The novel and the TV series will focus on a newcomer to Oz, another young girl from Kansas who mysteriously arrives in the kingdom via tornado and ends up leading a revolution against Dorothy.
Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster wrote the show while Tim Kring, who created Heroes, will serve as producer.
Other Wizard of Oz TV projects that are in the works include Emerald City — a dark drama a la Game of Thrones — as well as Dorothy — a medical drama with soap opera stylings — and Warriors of Oz — a fantasy take on the story.
