According to Deadline, Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover) is producing a new comedy for NBC. The show will be written by Aisha Muharrar, who is a producer and former writer for Parks and Recreation, and will center around a teenager who wants to be the next Oprah. She’s socially awkward, though, so she tries to solve the problems of her friends and family Oprah-style to help get her ready for the big time.
The show will be produced by Helms’ new company, Electric Picture Co., which has a “first-look” deal with Universal TV, which owns NBC. Helms obviously has a history with the network—he starred as Andy Bernard on The Office for eight seasons.“ We are such fans of Ed Helms from his body of work as an actor but we have always been impressed by his instincts and interest in producing,” said Bela Bajaria, executive vice president of Universal TV after agreeing to terms with Electric Picture Co.
