Guillermo del Toro Writing Pacific Rim Sequel
Yesterday, Guillermo del Toro’s summer blockbuster Pacific Rim was released on DVD/Blu-ray. The director also revealed to IGN that he’s already working on a sequel.
When asked whether the Blu-ray can make or break a sequel, del Toro rejected the idea and revealed that he is already working on Pacific Rim 2. “No, we are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate…To me, what was beautiful and flattering was how people saw the movie not once or twice but three, four times or more. People that love it, love it with great passion. So I would love to continue telling stories about that world.”
Del Toro currently has several other upcoming projects in the works including an Incredible Hulk TV series, and films Crimson Peak and Pinnochio.
According to del Toro, the Pinnochio film has suffered a few setbacks, but the director remains hopeful, “We have a large part of the financing in place. One of the partners we had simply stopped making films. We are looking for a new partner, and hopefully it will happen. It’s always serendipity, which project happens and which one doesn’t.”
