Mercyland to Reunite After 22 Years for Athens, Ga. Show

After more than two decades of inactivity, Athens-based punk trio Mercyland is set to reunite. The band—which is comprised of frontman and bassist David Barbe, guitarist Andrew Donaldson and drummer Joel Suttles—will play its first live gig back on Oct. 5 at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Ga., Online Athens points out.

As the group’s six-year stint was coming to an end, Mercyland released one more EP before calling it quits. According to Barbe, who is now the director of the Music Business Program at the University of Georgia, the trio noticed its time was coming to an end and made the decision to call it quits six months before the final release.

Although Mercyland were asked to reform for a show at AthFest in 2012, the band declined, saying they needed a little more time to plan their reunion.

No plans for future shows have been announced.
