Michael Arndt No Longer Writing New Star Wars, Abrams & Kasdan Taking Over
The road to Star Wars Episode VII seems to have reached its first real speed bump with news coming today that the film’s screenwriter Michael Arndt is no longer attached to the project.
A tweet from Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter broke the news saying:
“breaking Star Wars news: Michael Arnt is no longer writing the script for Ep. 7 Now it’s Lawrence Kasdan and JJ.”
While Arndt won an Oscar for his first produced screenplay Little Miss Sunshine and has written such huge titles as Brave and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but the new writing duo behind Star Wars has an even more appropriate resume for the project.
Most notably, Lawrence Kasdan co-wrote both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark. Abrams has also written two of his past directorial efforts— Mission: Impossible III and Super 8 —making this the third film he will both write and direct.
