Morrissey’s sexual orientation has been the subject of seemingly endless amounts of speculation for nearly three decades now, and for the most part, the iconic singer/songwriter has never felt the need to address questions of his personal life. But with the release of his new autobiography last week, the 54-year-old fanned the flames once again when he revealed that he had a two-year relationship with a man named Jake Walters, a man he met at a restaurant when he was 35.
“For the first time in my life the eternal ‘I’ becomes ‘we’, as, finally, I can get on with someone,” Morrissey said. “Jake and I neither sought nor needed company other than our own for the whirlwind stretch to come.” Morrissey rarely discussed his private life when he was a member of the Smiths, though he often cited that he was happily celibate, and now, thanks to a recent message that was allegedly posted by Morrissey to fan website True To You, the singer has definitively declared that he is … humasexual.
“Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual. I am attracted to humans. But, of course … not many.” As always, a wistful response from Morrissey to remind fans that the whole issue is—well—criminally vulgar.
