Oliver Stone in Talks to Direct Martin Luther King, Jr. Biopic
Oliver Stone has made a career out of chronicling major historical moments and figures from the mid-20th century, focusing on the likes of the Vietnam War, JFK and Richard Nixon just to name a few. Now, it appears the acclaimed director may be heading a biopic centered around Martin Luther King, Jr.
THR is reporting that the director is currently “in talks” to create the film, though there haven’t been any actual offers on the table. However, unlike other MLK biopics currently in development, this Dreamworks and Warner Bros. co-production has received the blessing of both the King estate as well as Steven Spielberg, who could be attached to produce the film. Though Spielberg could potentially be involved in the project, the current deal would ultimately land Stone in the director’s chair.
Jamie Foxx may also be slated to star as the civil rights leader, though there have been no official terms yet. Foxx has already acted in a leading role under Oliver Stone when the two collaborated in the 1999 film Any Given Sunday.
