Showtime announced yesterday that it will bring back its newest series Masters of Sex for a second season. The network has also renewed its popular series Homeland for a fourth season, Variety reports.
Masters of Sex, starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, is currently performing well in its first season with an average 5.4 million viewers a week.
“The critical and audience reaction to Masters of Sex since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying,” said Showtime entertainment president David Nevins. “It’s a privilege to get to work with such talented and creative people as Alex Gansa (Homeland) and Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex), as well as their tremendous casts. They have each created truly original shows, with distinctive voices that are among the most admired series on television.”
Since the series finale of Showtime’s popular series Dexter, Homeland is leading the network in ratings by bringing in an average of 6.5 million viewers a week, up 26 percent from last season.
“Homeland continues to prove its strength for Showtime and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely discussed shows. It has grown its audience significantly in each of its three seasons,” Nevins said.
Both Masters of Sex and Homeland have been ordered for 12 episodes each to air in the 2014 season.
