Tom Hanks on Lack of Superhero Roles: "God, I Want to Throw a Shield at Somebody"
There is just one role missing in Tom Hanks’ expansive film career.
Hanks has starred in a variety of different roles, ranging from the instantly recognizable Forrest Gump to merchant mariner Richard Phillips in the recent feature Captain Phillips.
However, Hanks has not yet had the chance to play a superhero, a missed opportunity that he hopes to soon remedy, The Wrap points out.
“God, I want to throw a shield at somebody, you know?” Hanks said in an interview with The Showbiz 411. “I want that.”
The problem, according to Hanks, is that filmmakers have never asked him to play a superhero in his features.
“Even let me play a bad guy,” he said. “Let me play the bad guy against Batman. I’ll do anything. Come on, call me. They’ve never asked. What do I gotta do?”
The actor remarked that he hopes to one day play The Flash, which filmmakers might want to keep in mind.
