Tweets of the Week
This week was rife with pop culture news that ranged from the cringe-worthy to the hilariously absurd (#Bangerz, anyone?). However, one particular item dominated the Twitter-sphere: Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel ended their recent feud Wednesday evening when the rapper appeared on the TV host’s late night show.
The feud began a couple weeks ago when West began Tweeting furiously at Kimmel after he spoofed a BBC interview he’d given about his enigmatic reputation in Hollywood. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, West claimed that he had “never done a publicity stunt in [his] life” because he didn’t “follow rules of, like, normal celebrity.” The two made up when Kimmel gifted West with a pair of miniature leather jogging pants for daughter North West, suggesting that a future bromance may be in store.
Miley Cyrus finally released Bangerz, the album that the world has anticipated with bated breath and slight concern since she premiered two of its tracks, “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.” The release sent Tweeters into a frenzy with most commenting on the record’s higher-than-expected quality.
Alice Munro received the 2013 Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday, becoming only the 13th woman to do so. For the most part, members of the Twitter-sphere — including prolific peer Margaret Atwood — congratulated the Canadian writer heartily on her award. Bret Easton Ellis, however, was none too pleased.
