Watch Sarah Silverman's Unreleased 2012 Sitcom, Susan 313
Failed pilots are endlessly fascinating to me, if only for the fact that they usually disappear without a trace, never seen by more than a handful of people. When we actually get to see one? That’s a huge treat for comedy fans, even if the show is terrible. It’s like a 22-minute glimpse into an alternate universe.
Last night, Sarah Silverman posted the pilot of “Susan 313” to her YouTube channel. The show was produced by Ron Howard and directed by Ken Kwapis but was ultimately rejected by NBC in 2012. Like most failed shows, it hasn’t seen the light of day.
Silverman stars as herself, basically, except that her 10-year relationship has just ended and now she’s trying to figure out single life. Jeff Goldblum plays her ex, and the show also features Tig Notaro, Harris Wittels (of Humblebrag fame) and Diane Raphael.
There’s a short intro by Silverman where she explains that she’s not posting the show out of any residual bitterness, but only because she’s still fond of what they produced. Watch the whole thing here:
