Jayne Rand, a 48-year-old mother from the county of Wiltshire in southern England has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for the theft of 905 designer handbags over the course of three years. Vogue reports that she made almost £90,000 (that’s over $145,000 for us Stateside).
“She bitterly regrets everything that she’s done,” stated Andrew Taylor, Rand’s defense attorney. “She became almost immune to the feeling of wrongdoing.”
Rand was apprehended in a shopping center in Cwmbran, South Wales upon stealing her 905th bag. She had previously lifted from department stores such as Debenhams, House of Fraser and John Lewis. The bags were reported in court to have a retail value greater than £135,000. Rand stole bags designed by Mulberry, Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Burberry.
