Almost All of R.E.M. Reunited to Play "(Don't Go Back to) Rockville"

The 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia has spawned many household names in rock music—including R.E.M., which reunited to perform at the venue in their hometown.

Three of the four original members—bassist Mike Mills, drummer Bill Berry as well as guitarist Peter Buck—jumped on stage last night to perform ”(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville” from their 1984 sophomore effort Reckoning, Slicing Up Eyeballs reports. The performance took place at a show Buck was scheduled to play with Kevn Kinney of Drivin N Cryin.

Michael Stipe, who was the band’s frontman before their break-up in 2011, was noticeably missing during the performance. However, according to a Tweet from an audience member, he had joined the crowd to watch the rest of the band perform.

Check out the video of the band performing ”(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville” below.
