30+ Indie Developers Signed On for Xbox One Self-Publishing

Microsoft’s Chris Charla has just announced the first wave of indie game developers that plan to self-publish titles on the Xbox One via the console’s ID@XBox program. Charla writes that Xbox One dev kits have been sent to over 50 studios, mentioning 32 of the studios in question. That list includes well-known names like Crytek, Double Fine, and Vlambeer.

Although this first wave of developers features many companies with successful track records, the ID@Xbox program plans to open up more as time goes on. The program’s website explains its “longer term plan,” which is “that anyone with a retail Xbox One will be able to develop, publish, and sell their game on Xbox Live.” The ID@Xbox program also provides a free copy of Unity to its developers so as to provide “a level playing field.”
