December 2, 2013  |  10:05am

Veteran Beer Company, a new Chicago-based brewery, has set a couple of ambitious goals right out of the gate. The company is committed to only hiring veterans, with a goal of employing 1,500 disabled vets while selling 200,000 cases of beer in the next year. The company, which is owned by a disabled vet, launched in November and already employs 45 veterans.

The unemployment rate for veterans is 20 percent. The unemployment rate for disabled veterans is 88 percent. Veteran Beer Company uses mostly disabled vets in every job within the company.

Currently, Veteran is distributed in Illinois and Indiana, but expansion plans are already in place. The brewery offers two styles, the Veteran (an amber lager) and the Blonde Bomber (an American blonde ale).
