Gal Gadot, a name that already sounds like it belongs in a comic book, has been cast as Wonder Woman in the forthcoming Batman vs. Superman film.
Rumors began circulating in early November that Warner Bros. was on the hunt for someone to take the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming film, sending out a casting call for a “tall brunette, athletic and exotic” woman. Originally, the studio had called in two other actresses, Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), along with Gadot to test for role.
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,” director Zack Sndyer said.
Gadot’s resumé currently includes the last three Fast & Furious films, along with several smaller roles in films like Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day and Date Night, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
Following the same route as Marvel’s The Avengers, Warner Bros. is also set to introduce other Justice League members alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Batman vs. Superman is set for a summer 2015 release.
