Nintendo Announces NES Remix, Dr. Luigi, Zelda-themed Hyrule Warriors

December 18, 2013  |  11:00am

Nintendo held another “Nintendo Direct” press conference this morning, where they announced three new games and revealed new information about other upcoming titles for the Wii U and 3DS.

One of the new games, NES Remix, is already available for download for the Wii U. The nostalgia-bending suite of minigames remixes 80s classics from the NES, with stages including a Donkey Kong level with Link from Legend of Zelda as the playable character, and Super Mario Bros. worlds run backwards or rendered in silhouette.

Nintendo also announced a Dynasty Warriors-style action game set in the world of Legend of Zelda. Provisionally titled Hyrule Warriors, this game comes from Tecmo-Koei, the creators of Dynasty Warriors, working in conjunction with Nintendo. It will arrive for the Wii U in 2014.

The third new game announced today is Dr. Luigi, a new downloadable version of Dr. Mario that will be released for the Wii U on 12/31/2013.

Nintendo also revealed new information about such upcoming games as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (which will be available for the Wii U on 2/21/2014), a Chibi-Robo AR game for the 3DS for January, Yoshi’s Island-themed DLC for Sonic: Lost World on the Wii U, and new levels and characters for Mario Kart 8 and the next Super Smash Bros.
