Earlier this year we learned that AMC had ordered two new period dramas that are set to debut in 2014, one of which covers the 1980s rise of computer engineering and the other follows a group of spies in the Revolutionary War. According to Deadline, AMC has already begun to roll out the promotion for the latter of these shows, as the company released the first glimpse of Turn through a brief teaser trailer.
Turn is based on historian Alexander Rose’s book Washington Spies and follows Abe Woodhull, a New York farmer who rallies a group of friends together to form The Culper Ring. The Culper Ring finds Woodhull (played by Jamie Bell) joined by Major Benjamin Tallmadge (Seth Numrich), informant Anna Strong (Heather Lind) and a few other noteworthy historical figures such as George Washington.
The trailer for Turn plays upon the “revolutionary” nature of The Culper Ring, known to be America’s first spy group. Turn was created and produced by Craig Silverstein and the pilot was directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Turn is set to make its premiere next spring.
