Deschutes Brewery and Stone Brewery are two of the most beloved craft breweries in the country, and both are looking to expand by opening new brewing facilities on the East Coast.
Deschutes is currently weighing the pros and cons of planning a $50 million expansion in its current home of Bend, or opening a new facility on the East Coast. They’re already the fifth largest craft brewery in the country. According to the Bend Bulletin, opening an East Coast facility would cut shipping costs, an economic reality that has brought Oskar Blues, Sierra Nevada, and New Belgium east.
Meanwhile, Escondido, California-based Stone Brewing Company is looking everywhere from the Mid-West to the East Coast to house its new facility, according to Beer Street Journal. Stone hasn’t determined a budget or a time table for their expansion, but they have published a public request for site proposals, so if you thin your home town would be a good fit for the Arrogant Bastards at Stone, feel free to submit a proposal. I think my basement would be an ideal location for Stone’s East Coast facilities (off street parking, access to kitchen), and plan to offer plenty of tax incentives to sweeten the deal.
