The Pixies Release Surprise EP-2, Listen to “Blue Eyed Hexe”

January 3, 2014  |  9:40am

It’s a random Friday in January, which can only mean one thing—the Pixies have dropped a brand new EP, a follow-up to last September’s EP-1 titled—I’ll let you take a crack at it first…EP-2! You can get a download ($4) or 10-inch record ($18) of the four-track EP at their website, and watch a video for “Blue Eyed Hexe” above.

According to frontman Frank Black, we’ve got a treat in third track “Greens and Blues.” “It was my attempt to come up with another song that would – musically, emotionally and psychologically – sit in the same place that ‘Gigantic’ has sat,” Black said. “Not that I could ever replace that song: you write songs and they come out the way they come out. So perhaps it can be said that this song fills the emotional niche that ‘Gigantic’ occupied, another show-closer. I think the lyric alludes to that, the fact that it’s the end of the night, the end of something. And a separation if you will, between the band and the audience. So I guess it’s kind of a goodbye song, or really more of a ‘good night’ song.”
