In Michael Winterbottom’s 2011 film The Trip, stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon engage in one of the greatest demonstrations of one-upmanship ever as they swap impersonations of famous actors such as Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Woody Allen and most notably Michael Caine. And while many a man has probably competed in a quality Caine-off with his buddy by now, these Brits have truly elevated the competition to high art. Thankfully, Coogan and Brydon’s Caine impressions (along with a few others) return in Winterbottom’s sequel, The Trip To Italy, this time to riff on the various eccentric voices in The Dark Knight Rises. Who knew Alfred had buried 14 Batmans?
Like the first film, The Trip To Italy will portray Coogan and Brydon as fictionalized versions of themselves as they eat along the historical route of English Romantic poets who traveled through the Italy. The film aired at Sundance earlier this week, but has no official date for a wider release as of yet.
