Brooklyn Brewery To Open Teaching Brewery In Culinary Institute Of Arts

Remember when you were in college and you wished you could major in beer? Soon, you’ll be able to do just that at the Culinary Institute of Arts (CIA) in Hyde Park, where Brooklyn Brewery has agreed to build a small scale brewery that is scheduled to open to the public in 2015.

Brewery operations will be integrated into the curriculum of the college, and students pursuing a degree in Advanced Wine, Beverage, and Hospitality will staff the brewery and learn about fermentation and brewing techniques. Brooklyn Brewery’s brewmaster Garrett Oliver will visit the CIA to help develop curriculum and recipes.

The CIA will offer a regular lineup of beers as well as seasonals on tap at the brewery and the four restaurants on campus.

The CIA isn’t the only place where you can major in beer (legitimately). Appalachian State University, in Boone, N.C. has a Fermentation Sciences degree. You can also study Fermentation Science at UC Davis, Oregon State, and Colorado State University, among others.
