Two of Disney’s hottest franchises could be headed to the company’s popular sandbox videogame, Disney Infinity. The Wall Street Journal reports that characters from Marvel and Star Wars will appear in future iterations of the game, which currently includes properties from other Disney franchises, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Pixar.
Sets featuring Marvel and Star Wars are said to be in development, though Disney declined to comment. The news comes amid a less cheerful story as WSJ’s report also revealed that layoffs are likely on the way for Disney Interactive, numbering in the hundreds, despite the fact that the division turned a profit last quarter thanks in large part to Infinity selling 3 million copies.
A sequel to Disney Infinity has not been announced, but the company did say last year that the hope is to annualize the series—meaning Marvel and Star Wars junkies could be adding Luke Skywalker and Iron Man to their Infinity collection sooner rather than later.
