StudioCanal and Film4 have revealed the full cast for Australian director Justin Kurzel’s screen adaptation of the Shakespeare tragedy Macbeth. The film, which stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as the titular couple, will also feature Paddy Considine, David Thewlis (Lupin from the Harry Potter series), Sean Harris (The Borgias), Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki (a bright spot as Jordan in The Great Gatbsy). While there is no official word yet on which characters each will play, IMDB has apparently already attached the roles of Banquo and Macduff to Considine and Harris, respectively.
The film also began principal photography today, commencing a seven-week shoot that will split time between England and Scotland. It appears that Kurzel’s adaptation will be a traditional one, as the film’s synopsis reads, “Macbeth is the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a truthful reimagining of what wartime must have really been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war torn 11th Century Scotland.”
Macbeth is set to be distributed in the U.S. by The Weinstein Company in 2015.
