Rock Band Developers Announce a Free-to-Play Musical Shooter for PC

Harmonix, the studio behind Rock Band and Dance Central, is making a rhythm-based, free-to-play shooter for PC, it announced earlier today.

Developed in conjunction with Hidden Path Entertainment, Chroma is a class-based shooter where the game’s music is a crucial factor in your performance. It looks and plays like a first person shooter, using traditional controllers or a mouse and keyboard for input, but your actions are more powerful when performed on beat with the music. As described by Engadget, that means a shot does more damage when you press the trigger button in time with the beat, along with various other applications.

Chroma will launch as a free-to-play title through Steam later this year, but Harmonix is running a closed alpha later this month for testing purposes. You can apply for a chance to participate in that alpha here.

Below you can find a few screenshots and a trailer for Chroma.
