The recently freed Nadezhda “Nadya” Tolokonnikova and Maria “Masha” Alyokhina of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot appeared on The Colbert Report last night. Colbert opened with a warm greeting, asking about their experiences with fine American dining: “Welcome to the United States. Have you been to an Olive Garden yet?” They spoke through a translator, but still laughed at Colbert’s jokes and spoke candidly about their own imprisonment. Colbert would later close the show with a demand to Putin: “Vladimir, I don’t ask much, and I don’t ask often, but you leave those girls alone.”

Pussy Riot will be at Amnesty International’s Bringing Human Rights Home concert at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn tonight (Feb. 5) alongside many other musicians. Watch the interview below.
