Fashion met function this New York Fashion Week (NYFW) as Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) beauty editors took to Lincoln Center outfitted in an unlikely accessory—Google Glass. The $1,500 gadget, which is still in testing and not yet available to the public, was used by four editors at the 50 fashion shows WWD attended. Using Google Glass, they were able to take video, photos and even gifs to give readers an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at what they were seeing firsthand.
Google Lifestyle Partnerships Manager Bette Ann Schlossberg was excited about the collaboration. She told WWD, “Through the use of Glass and the Google+ Auto Awesome Photos feature, editors can have a unique way to capture their backstage experience this [NYFW]. WWD readers can truly see what the editors are seeing.”
This isn’t the first time Google Glass has made an appearance at Fashion Week. Designer Diane von Furstenberg was way ahead of the curve at her spring 2013 show. She outfitted several of her runway models in the device, and she wore her own when she took her bow. The front row was filled with A-list fashion superstars (Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Sarah Jessica Parker, to name a few), and they were joined by a trailblazer in technology—Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
