Sippin’ On Gin and…Lavender Sprigs

Drink Features

The month of April begs for a fresh, simple cocktail. Just a couple of ingredients. Maybe an herb. Something crisp and light but not too sweet. To get you in the mood, we’ve taken the liberty of jotting down a few lines of poetry. Don’t worry, it’s not depressing “winter” poetry. It’s uplifting “spring” poetry. About alcohol.

Said Chaucer to the reader:
When April with his showers sweet with fruit/ The drought of March has pierced unto the root
And bathed each vein with liquor that has power/ To generate therein and sire the flower
This writer continues with an abomination:
When the flowers grow in speed and sing/ Come stir me in thy cocktail
Come meet me at the bar/ All powers gather in a gin to lips
And pleasure drinks some spring.

April Showers Power Flowers
1.5 oz Plymouth Gin
1 oz St-Germain
Two lavender sprigs

St-Germain is a liqueur of the Alps’ own elderflower blossom, delicate and sweet. Deepen it with the potent lavender sprigs that have made it, albeit hardened, over winter in the herb garden. Stirred over rocks in a short old-fashioned glass, this drink will have you seeing Maria singing while her skirts twirl over the mountainside. Yep, that’s a Sound of Music reference. Boom.
