Check Out This USB-Powered 3D Printing Pen

3D printing just continues to get more and more cool, the more mainstream it becomes. How about a device that means you can print what you doodle though? Rather than being restricted to a more conventional 3D printer, you can use a pen to draw exactly what you envisage. That’s the thinking behind Lix 3D pen, a tool that’s currently being funded via a Kickstarter campaign.

Lix 3D pen looks just like a regular pen but it’s so much more than that. You can use it to draw or write in the air without any need for paper, with the pen keeping track of exactly what you’re doing. Sounding like some kind of futuristic tool, Lix offers similar functions to a regular 3D printer, melting and cooling colored plastic, thereby allowing you to create rigid and freestanding structures.

Thanks to being designed just like a regular pen, it won’t feel clunky to use, weighing only 40 grams. It merely requires waiting 60 seconds for the filament to heat up before you get drawing. It’s powered via USB so it can be used anywhere you go, with no need to be restricted to electrical outlets.

With a wide range of uses, from home design, customization purposes, or simply to mess around with, Lix 3D pen is a very cool gadget. With until May 29 to run on its campaign, the project has already far usurped its goal. There’s still time though to chip in £82 (around $135) to grab a black or grey pen along with 3 bags of mixed color plastic. More expensive packages are also available for those who want more choices of plastic or to receive the pen earlier than most. Check it out now to see just how far 3D printing has come.
