Stan Lee Replies to David Goyer’s She-Hulk Comments

David Goyer has become a well-established writer for the DC cinematic universe, co-writing Nolan’s Batman Trilogy and working on the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice film. But, much like the heroes that Goyer writes about, there are thresholds to be crossed and guardians to be defeated. In Goyer’s case, his natural enemies are the Martian Manhunter’s “goofy title,” a stereotype that all comic book readers are self-loathing, compulsive masturbators and a theory that She-Hulk is a porn-star. Goyer was quoted in the May 20th Scriptnotes Podcast saying, “I think She-Hulk is the chick that you could fuck if you were Hulk, you know what I’m saying? … She-Hulk was the extension of the male power fantasy. So it’s like if I’m going to be this geek who becomes the Hulk then let’s create a giant green porn star that only the Hulk could fuck.”

First of all, no. Hulk and She-Hulk are cousins, so unless there’s some kind of pent-up, Jerry Lewis-like desire that has yet to be covered in either of their respective comics, it won’t ever happen.

Swooping in to set the record straight about the two green-hued super humans, Stan Lee told The Washington Post, “Never for an instant did I want her as a love interest for Hulk. Only a nut would even think of that.”

Lee also rejected Goyer’s misogynistic assertion that She-Hulk is merely a “porn star,” explaining that she was created to be an “intelligent Hulk-type” superhero. “As for her looking beautiful and curvy,” Lee says, “show me the superheroine who isn’t.”

Goyer has yet to respond to Lee’s comments.
