The Decemberists Perform Two New Songs

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from The Decemberists, but it looks like they may be plotting their return. The band took the stage at Boston Calling this past weekend, playing their first show together in over three years. And as Stereogum points out, they threw two new songs into their career-spanning set.

Last year, frontman Colin Meloy released an EP of covers alongside a brief solo tour, his first since The Decemberists’ well-received 2011 album The King is Dead. The band also appeared together on the recent season finale of Parks and Recreation.

It seems like just the spark they needed, because “Lake Song” and “Philomena,” the two songs the band performed at Boston Calling, remind us of just what we’ve been missing for the last three years. If the new songs are from a forthcoming album, it would mark their seventh LP.

Take a listen to “Lake Song” and “Philomena” via these fan videos from the show.
