Last season of SNL proved to be quite difficult as the cast dealt with not only low-ratings, but the departure of Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis. Many critics felt the new actors were not ready to fill the roles of some of these SNL vets, which creator Lorne Michaels acknowledged by saying, “It was a hard season. We put a lot of pressure on a lot of new people.”
Michaels recently did an interview with Deadline about the forthcoming 40th season of SNL, which kicks off this September. The creator and showrunner of the sketch show explained “We’re still in the middle of rebuilding. So there will be changes this year.”
NBC will be airing a three-hour special in February, which is expected to celebrate the highs and lows with SNL’s most loved alumni.
