New July 2015 Movies and TV Streaming on Netflix

TV Features Netflix

We’re into the hot, hot heat of summer, when even the idea of going outside is enough to make me sweat profusely. The only cure is streaming entertainment, and there’s no better proprietor in that realm than Netflix. Every month, the world’s biggest digital TV and movie service trots out a series of new offerings, and it may be our only defense against the sun. Coming in July, we’ve got an anti-rom-com disguised as a rom-com, a bold stand-up special, and a psychological thriller, among others.

Check out our featured recommendations, and read on for the full list of this month’s new offerings.

Year: 2014
Director: Angus MacLachlan
Available: July 14
Goodbye to All That marks screenwriter Angus MacLachlan’s directorial debut, an honest and quietly relatable return for the Junebug scribe to familiar territory. He sets this film in small town North Carolina and gently focuses on the confounding nature of human relationships—especially the ones that fall in that murky area between sex and love…After all, it’s tagline calls it “A modern divorce story.” —Christine N. Ziemba

Tig_Notaro_2010.jpgTig
Year: 2015
Director: Tig Notaro
Available: July 17
In a performance that is now the stuff of stand-up comedy legend, Notaro joked about a four-month period in which she was hospitalized with a life-threatening illness, lost her mother to a freak accident, went through a breakup and then was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts. Comedy titan Louis C.K., who was at the show and wrote about/sold it on his website, called it “one of the greatest standup performances [he] ever saw” and “an amazing example of what comedy can be.” —Scott Russell

FaultsCover.jpgFaults
Year: 2015
Director: Riley Stearns
Available: July 4
Cults have long provided fascinating source material for both narrative and documentary films, and now writer-director Riley Stearns joins the order with his commendable first feature, a 90-minute headtrip, disconcerting to the very end. Faults is at times horrifyingly funny—before it becomes just plain horrifying—carried by stellar performances…During its last act, Faults goes mind-bendingly twisted, head-first into completely ominous territory…stars Orser and Winstead are committed to the madness —Christine N. Ziemba
