This Tumblr Featuring Fake Tony Blair—Bill Clinton Conversations May Be the Internet’s Next Weird Comedy Gem

Here at Paste, we like to be on the cutting edge of weird comedy things that appear on the Internet, which is why we’re writing this post about a Tumblr that imagines odd phone conversations between former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, back when they were still in power.

Before we show you an example, let’s count the reasons why the concept itself is hilarious.

1. Wait, Blair and Clinton?

2. In the ‘90s?

3. Why? I don’t really get it.

4. That’s a weird conceit.

5. But that is kinda funny, isn’t it? Like, it doesn’t make sense, and it’s not obvious (Bush-Blair might be more obvious?), but it’s a little off-the-wall in a good way.

6. So Clinton just calls up Blair to talk about whatever, and is kinda annoying, but Blair has to tolerate him for the sake of diplomacy?

7. I’m into this. I’m into this idea. I’m laughing. This could be the next Garfield minus Garfield, or Achewood, or Bad Lip Reading. I hope the execution is solid.

Okay, so that wasn’t exactly a list of reasons as much as a documentation of my own thought process set to arbitrary numbers. Apologies for the false advertising.

Good news is, the execution is great! Written by one “Michael Spicer,” who describes himself as “an impressively consistent disappointment,” the Tumblr convos only began to appear on Wednesday. Here’s an example:

As you can see, Clinton is cast as the buffoon, while Blair is the polite guy attempting to disguise his growing impatience. So basically, it’s an American and a Brit. In any case, it just works, and we hope Mr. Spicer will keep writing these. Go visit his Tumblr for more.
