Elizabeth Banks Will Play Villain Rita Repulsa In The New Power Rangers Movie

Today in awesomeness, we bring you … Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa!

The actress tweeted today that she’ll be playing the evil alien witch in the 2017 Lionsgate reboot of Power Rangers. She’s free after 10,000 years of slumber/cryosleep/whatever you can imagine, and the Power Rangers will need to save Earth from her wrath.

In case you’ve forgotten, this is what Rita Repulsa and her crew of buffoonish interspecies henchmen looked like back in the ‘90s, on the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers:

Not so different-looking from Banks’ turn as Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games trilogy, when you think about it. Here’s hoping that Lionsgate recreates the original production value exactly.
