Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult Explore Forbidden Love in this Equals Teaser

The teaser trailer for Equals is equal parts typical and unexpected. The film, directed by Like Crazy’s Drake Doremus and executive produced by Ridley Scott, has all the sterile beauty one would expect from a futuristic drama about forbidden love.

The movie follows Nicholas Hoult’s Silas, an illustrator and a man grappling with a disease that causes him to feel emotion. That’s a big no-no in a utopian (or dystopian) society where people are not allowed to feel or act on emotions. You know, because those just make peace and stuff super difficult. Not surprisingly, Silas let’s his emotions take hold when he meets Stewart’s Nia, a writer who (surprise!) also has the same disease. Soon the two embark on an emotional journey that just may become a fight for survival.

Although the premise isn’t anything particularly original, producer Ridley’s ambitious style is everywhere and certainly visually appealing. Plus, the trailer’s ability to play with our emotional responses to the physicality of love, through the actors’ delicate chemistry, could make Equals worth the watch, if only for it being drench in stunning imagery.
