Kurt Russell Officially Joins Guardians of the Galaxy Sequel

Movies News

Guardians of the Galaxy’s writer and director James Gunn may have gotten his wish when it comes to casting Star-Lord’s father.

It was announced today that veteran actor Kurt Russell will appear in the anticipated sequel to 2014’s ‘70s music-infused superhero team-up. The casting news came from a studio press release announcing the sequel’s start of production. Although Russell’s specific role wasn’t made clear, back in December Gunn shared an interest in casting the prolific talent in the role of Star-Lord’s mysterious father.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, which is currently filming in Atlanta, will also include The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’s Elizabeth Debicki and The Knick’s Chris Sullivan. The sequel is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.

Returning cast members include Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan, with James Gunn back in the writer and director’s chair.
