Emilia Clarke’s Says Her Involvement With the Terminator Franchise Is Over

It looks like the mother of dragons is out as the slayer of robotic harbingers of the apocalypse.

Terminator Genisys star Emilia Clarke has opened up about her involvement with the long-standing action franchise in the near or not-so-near future. And by open up, we mean shut your hopes and dreams completely down.

The latest actress to bring the iconic female action star Sarah Connor to life on the big screen confirmed in an interview with Coming Soon that any sequels to the franchise’s most recent installment will not involve her as the titular hero.

“No,” Clarke said about any personal plans to return to the franchise. “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

It’s not hard to understand why Clarke might want to squash any rumors about a reprisal and separate herself a bit from the film. Overseas Genisys performed strongly, particularly in China, but across the Pacific it was a quintessential flop. The film only managed to gross a total of $89.7 million in North America with a budget of $155 million. The rest of the film’s $440.6 million box office earnings came from international territories.

As of now, Skydance Productions has no plans for a follow-up to last year’s Allen Taylor-directed feature, which saw the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the original “Terminator.” Of course, we know a world-ending robot’s got to do what a world-ending robot’s got to do. So we’ll probably see another addition to the larger Terminator universe at some point. It just won’t involve Clarke.
