African-American Women Join the Space Race in Hidden Figures Trailer

In the first official trailer for Hidden Figures, women are trying to win a battle against the glass ceiling and the great space race.

The film, based on Margot Lee Setterly’s book of the same name, follows Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), badass math geniuses employed by NASA. The trio worked on the Friendship 7 mission, which allowed the first American astronaut to orbit the earth.

On the sidelines are Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Glen Powell. Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer composed the score for the film, with Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) in the director’s chair.

Hidden Figures is due out Jan. 13, 2017. Watch the first trailer above.
