George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush Now Both Hospitalized

Over the weekend, George H.W. Bush was admitted to a Houston-area hospital for “an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia.” Now CNN, the BBC and other outlets are reporting that Barbara Bush has also been admitted to the same hospital as her husband, the 41st and oldest-living president, for “fatigue and a cough.”

According to family spokesperson Jim McGrath, the 92-year-old George H.W. was sedated before a procedure to “protect and clear his airway,” and is expected to be released in a few days.

H.W., who suffers from a form of Parkinson’s, previously spent a week in the hospital in 2015 for breaking a neck bone, and he currently uses a wheelchair and motorized scooter to get around. Even still, Bush the Elder finds time to take veterans fishing, attend ball games and throw out ceremonial first pitches.
