Lorde’s Melodrama Gets Release Date, New Single

After almost four years away, Lorde has put herself solidly back in the spotlight. Last week, she released her much-anticipated single “Greenlight,” and today we have a release date for her forthcoming album Melodrama—June 16.

Every preorder of the record will come with an instant, free download of Lorde’s newest track “Liability,” which you can also listen to below. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Lorde talked about the meaning behind the new single: “I love the song so much and it feels so starkly truthful to me. And I think everyone knows what that’s like, to just feel like a fucking liability,” she said. Lorde also cited Rihanna’s song “Higher” as a major influence on her songwriting. “The way it kind of falls around, it’s almost like it’s kind of drunk or it sort of leans around, it’s got this hip-hop cadence to it,” said Lorde. The track “Liability” definitely seems to falls in line with Lorde’s emerging adulthood, as she sings about finding ways to love herself while still trying to meet others’ expectations.

You can listen to Lorde’s previously released single “Greenlight” here, and see the album art for Melodrama below. The album is currently available for preorder via LAVA/Republic Records. You can catch Lorde making her solo SNL debut this Saturday, March 11.
