You Need to See The xx and Florence Welch Perform “You Got the Love” Together

Yesterday we reported that The xx had been hosting their “Day + Night” series at the O2 Brixton Academy and bringing out musical friends such as Cat Power, Sampha and Robyn to help them cover a few tunes.

Last night, to wrap up that residency, The xx brought out Florence Welch to perform Jamie xx’s 2009 remix of Welch’s band’s cover of Candi Staton’s house tune “You Got the Love.” There are several steps to trace on that musical path, but basically it’s The xx and Florence Welch teaming up to repurpose something from their shared past. Welch, in particular, owns the moment and gives some ferocious dance wails.
